Four speakers will provide us with fascinating insights and anecdotes from their experiences ‘behind the scenes’ in their particular fields.
Suzanne Charlton will give us a retrospective peek into the world of weather forecasting. Daughter of former England footballer Sir Bobby Charlton, she become a weather forecaster at the Met. Office and ended up at the BBC. With luck we will hear amongst other stories, the truth about Michael Fish’s Hurricane.
Michael Wade tells tales from the Green Room. He has been on stage, television and film since 1968, more recently in Argentina and Brazil. Over the years he has accumulated a wealth of funny and interesting anecdotes as he rubbed shoulders with the stars.
Jonathan Shanin, an editor at the Guardian, will talk about the world of newspapers. He moved in 2014 to the Guardian from The New Yorker and will be well placed to tell us about the world of print journalism and its precarious future.
Fi Cotter-Craig returns by popular demand to Fireside. A Bafta-winning TV producer and occasional writer, she recently produced and appeared in, ‘The Island’, with Bear Grylls. With her trademark candour, she will provide us with a glimpse of life on ‘The Island’ after the cameras stopped rolling.
